DAY OF THE ANIMALS (1977)

Dir: William Girdler

Well, I never thought there would be a day when you see Leslie Neilson as a racist rapist who wrestles a bear. This film has everything. Everything except a satisfying ending, but you can’t win all the time. Due to the depletion of the ozone layer, radiation from the sun is affecting the wildlife. Unlike the film, in which the ozone takes care of itself, and everyone is safe at the end, we’re in the real world heating up like crazy.

We are treated to another Christopher George and Lynda Day union in Day of the Animals. Of course, my favorite union of these two will always be Pieces (1982). The following is the list of TV/Film projects they were in together: Mortuary, Pieces, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, day of the animals, Mayday at 40,000 Feet!, McCloud, Thriller, Owen Marshall, Mission: Impossible, The Immortal, The FBI, andChisum. I apologize, that was more for me.

Christopher George is a wilderness guide who takes groups of random paying strangers up into the mountains and guides them back down. It follows like a 1970’s disaster film like The Poseidon Adventure (1972), The Towering Inferno (1974), or Avalanche (1978). The group becomes stranded and surrounded by animals wanting to kill them. Instead of banding together, they turn on each other. It appears the radiation from the sun affects *sshole humans as much as wildlife. Leslie Nielsen is unlike any other character he’d play before or after. Go for the animals versus people, stay for Leslie Nielsen wrestling a bear.
